Like for every other poker game there are strategies that can help you become a better Caribbean stud poker player. Here we will describe some approaches that will help you to improve your winning chances and to minimize the house edge the next time you step on a Caribbean stud poker table.
Playing for progressive jackpot is not an easy decision as it is a bit risky. If you want to minimize your losses you better don't play the progressive as the probability of hitting any hand qualifying for it is quite low. We do not mean that the progressive is something that is bad to be played but as a gambler you should better keep in mind the low odds there are for winning it and our advise is just to be cautious and to play for it only if it is huge – at least 6 figures. A big part of the house edge on Caribbean stud poker comes exactly from the progressive bets and that's a fact.
Another useful piece of information we will give to you is that unlike in many other poker games bluffing is not the best approach in Caribbean Stud. If you have an "empty" hand you better fold as most of the times the dealer is going to qualify which means you lose. On the other hand, in case the dealer doesn't qualify, you will win but practically you win nothing as you'll just get your bet returned to you. So it is not an advantage for you to play "empty" hands at all!
In case you have a pair the most important thing you should pay attention to is the dealer's exposed card. The approach in that case is quite simple - if your pair is higher than the dealer's upcard you bet otherwise you better fold. That doesn't apply for all cases of course but for more than 50% it does.
As mentioned above Caribbean stud is quite different than the classic 5 cards poker, 7 card stud poker, Texas Hold em or any other poker game where other players are involved so don't bluff as you can make nobody to fold. The dealer never folds so nothing good is going to happen in case of bluffing on your part.
