Caribbean stud poker rules

The Caribbean Stud Poker rules vary from casino to casino especially from the U.S casinos to the U.K. and most of the other European casinos. So we will explain the rules in two parts here.

Part 1: U.S. casinos rules.
First of all, to enter the game, each of the players places his/her ante like all ante wagers must be placed prior to the dealer announcing "No more bets". Then each player and the dealer receive five face down cards. After that the dealer turns over one of the cards from his hand and pushes the cards toward the other players. And then the players are allowed to look at their cards (Everybody looks at his/her cards and does not discuss what he/she has with the other players).

There are two options in front of the players - to play or to fold. The bets of the players that have chosen to play are placed in the bet box (the bet amount equals two times to the ante of the respective player). The players that choose to fold forfeit their ante. After all the players have made their decisions (to bet or to fold) the dealer reveals all of the cards in his hand. The dealer only plays with and ace or king or higher and compares his cards to the cards of the other players individually and the best poker hand wins the game.

PAYOUTS:
If a player's cards beat the dealer's cards, the player will receive even money (1-1) on the ante, and the following on his bet (with a maximum payout of $5,000 U.S. Dollars per hand on each bet wager):

  • Royal flush - 100 to 1
  • Straight flush - 50 to 1
  • Four of a kind - 20 to 1
  • Full house - 7 to 1
  • Flush - 5 to 1
  • Straight - 4 to 1
  • Three of a kind - 3 to 1
  • Two pair - 2 to 1
  • One pair or less - 1 to 1

If the dealer does not have an ace or king, then all bet wagers will be void, and the players will receive even money on their ante bet only. If the dealer's cards beat a player's cards, the dealer collects both the ante and bet.

Part 2: U.K. casinos rules.
As mentioned above the Caribbean stud poker slightly differs in the U.K. from the US. The official name of the game is “Casino 5 card stud poker” and not all the casinos have the jackpot prize. Those casinos that have that prize call the game "Casino Jackpot 5 Card Stud Poker".
The basic rules of the game in UK and US are the same, but the payouts differ- the max bet is 100 BGP on the ante and 200BGP on the rise, and all the payouts are paid on the raise which means the maximum payout can reach 10 000 BGP. .
Unlike the US casinos where the Royal Flush pays 100:1 in the UK casinos the Royal Flush and the Straight Flush pay the same odds – 50:1.
In the British casinos if the dealer does not show an Ace/King, hands playing the jackpot must be turned over (face up) and shown to the dealer and table. If the player is not playing the jackpot prize, the cards are not shown.
