Caribbean stud poker history

As most people will probably guess the roots of this game are in the Caribbean Islands. It was a game played by sailors traveling in the waters surrounding the islands. Caribbean stud is a comparatively hard-to-win poker as the percentages for the player are not so high like in some other poker variations. And for that reason, when Caribbean stud poker was introduced to the casinos in America, a high and progressive bonus was immediately added so more people can get excited about the game. That definitely took effect on the gambling players and the game become a subject of huge interest.

The precursor to Caribbean Stud Poker is considered to be a game called Primero. It was a 3-card game played mostly in Spain and Great Britain in 16th and 17th century. Most gambling experts believe the game was brought to America in the early years of 18th century by French colonists. In just a few decades the game was transformed and adapted to the 52-card deck.

The beginning of Caribbean stud’s golden period starts after the 3rd decade of 20th century although gambling was legalized in the casinos in Nevada 20 years before that. The reason for that is that Caribbean Stud poker didn’t get legalized as it was mainly a game based on chance only (no element of skill involved). But Nevada’s state policy was revised in 1931 and all forms of gambling were legalized.
