player to move hand horizontally or to slide the cards under the bet.
- Double Down - increase the current bet to a maximum of double the original bet and take exactly one more card. For example if the player has a 50$ bet, then he increases it with additional 50$ and the new bet is 100$. The sign is the player to place additional chips next to(not on top of) original bet and make "one finger" sign.
- Split - Double the bet and have each card be the first in a new hand. This can be done only when both cards have the same rank or value. The sign is the player to place additional chips next to(not on top if) original bet and make the "two fingers" sign.
- Surrender - Lose half of the bet and give up the hand ( this is not always available option ). The sign is the player to make a "chopping" motion over the bet, but its better just to say it.
Also there are many Blackjack variation, and everyone of them have different rules from the original and thus different strategies. Some of the major variations are listed, but before starting to play, its wise to ask for different rules.
- Dealer soft 17 - There are two different dealer strategies in this variation, in the "S17" game, the dealer stands on all 17s. In the "H17" game, the dealer hits on soft 17s; of course. he stands on hard 17s.(In the two cases the dealer must or must not hit). The "H17" is substantially less favorable for the players.
- Number of decks - If all things are equal, the fewer available decks are more favorable for the player. But in reality the multi-deck games have better rules in favor of the player than the single-deck games.
- Late Surrender - The player have the option to "give up" his hand and get the half of his bet. In cases such as 15 vs 10, 16 vs 9 or 16 vs Ace this is slightly favorable, and in case of 16 vs 10 its definitely favorable.
- Double after split - This option exists to double a two-card hand form a split the same as the first two cards. Usually the player should play a hand after a split the same as the first two cards, but this rule does slightly change which hands should be split in the first place
- Double on 10 or 11 only - Its called also "Reno" rules. Many players are annoyed by this rule because doubling soft hands is considered part of the game
- Five card charlie/Five card trick - with this, the player will always win if five cards are drawn without busting, unless there is a blackjack on the table.
- European no-hole-card rule - In some places, the dealer does not receive a hole card, but if later its found that he has a blackjack, then the player loses his original bet only, he doesn't lose his additional bets, like doubles or splits.
- Altered payout for natural - In some places, the natural pays 6:5 or 1:1, this is off course very unfavorable to the players and this rule alone increases greatly the house edge.
