blackjack history

The game Blackjack has its roots from France at the 17th century and this is the fact that all of the researchers agree about. It originated from the game Vingt Et Un which means "21" in French, although the games are connected there are a few differences in the rules. In the old version the dealer is allowed to double and you have to bet at each round. The Vingt Et Un goal was to reach a natural or a total of 21 by using the Blackjack's hand ranking system. The Blackjack has its name, because of the special feature of the Vingt Et Un, which was a payout when a player has a hand consisted of a Jack and an Ace of spades(this is the ideal hand in the Vingt Et Un), hence the term Black Jack.

The Blackjack come to North America, after the French revolution, and immediately became very popular because of tis gameplay and the fact that by that time there were no laws which prohibited card games. But at the beginning of the 19 century any kind of gambling was banned by the US government and thus any kind of card games along with the Blackjack were played in the underground bars. With the further tightening of the gambling restrictions, the game became even more popular and eventually the state of Nevada decided to legalize gambling and this lead to the birth of Las Vegas.

As of today, the game of blackjack is still popular either in the casinos and in the newly internet based casinos
