The object of this game is to just win money from the slot machine. To win, there must be some matching symbols on the machine's display after the player have pull down a lever, touch a button or in the newest models pressing a touchscreen. The symbols are bright and easy recognizable(simple shapes like diamonds and hearts or image of fruit - grapes, watermelon and i.e. ). For the player to be able to play, he must first insert coins, cash or ticket-in, ticket-out(a bar coded paper ticket, in the newer models) into the machine. Most games have a variety of winning combinations, which are posted on the face of the slot machine so the player will know them. According to the combination, the machine may pay cash to the player or give him a bonus game.
There are mainly two types of slot machines: reel slots machines and video slots machines. Their difference is that the reel slots have 3 or 5 pay-lines and the video slots have 9, 15, 25 and in some cases 100 different pay-lines and are themed with graphics and music from popular TV shows or movies. A important difference for the player, between these two types of slot machines, are the way payouts are calculated. In the reel slots to win the jackpot, the player must insert the maximum number of coins(3, 4 or 5). In the video slots, the fixed payout amount are multiply by the number of coins per line being bet. The video slots machines are becoming more and more popular in the casinos these days.
There are many terms in the game of video machines, which are good to be known by the player. Here are the most common ones:
- Bonus: this is a special feature on a themed(movie or TV) machine. The bonus is activated when a certain symbols are in winning combination. When a bonus is activated, the player can choose from several items displayed on the screen, when the player chooses some items, a number of credits is displayed and the player is awarded.
- Candle: this is a light on top of the slot machine. It is used to alert the player that a hand pay is requested, there is a need for change or there is some problem with the slot machine.
- Carousel: this term is referring to a specific oval formation of the slot machines.
- Coin Hopper: this is the container in which the payout coins are held, and are immediately available for payout. The hopper drops the coins in the coin tray, when the player have pressed the "Cash Out" button on the machine or when a certain coin capacity is reached, in this case the hopper automatically drops some of the coins in the tray.
- Credit Meter: this is a display on which the money or credits available are shown.
