Here are some strategy tips which can help 7 card stud poker players to optimize their winning chances:
» In case you got a high pair in your starting hand you may want to play fast so you can eliminate as many players as possible
» In case you have 3 cards to a straight or flush in your initial set of cards you will want to slow play starting draw hands. Just let the other players to build the pot odds.
» Slow play starting trips until the 5th card. That is very important because having that powerful starting hand you will want some players around so bigger money can accumulate which you will most probably get.
» Don’t rush into the game in case you have a small pair only in your starting hand. You better give up unless your sidecard can beat the board. You definitely have better chances with a strong sidecard but even though playing forward is usually not a good idea. The same applies to three to a low flush or low straight at the beginning.
» Always keep an eye on the board! There might be cards that you need for building a strong hand so your chances may be quite lower than you think in case you have missed some cards like those. Always play cautiously and analyze the game by watching the board closely.
» Always try to be looking for reasons to fold your hands. Closely watch out for dead cards in the denomination you need or multiple dead cards in the suit that you are drawing to. Never overestimate your cards and always keep in mind that your opponents may be developing strong hands too! Once you have analyzed the game in details and you are sure there aren’t reasons for you to fold then you proceed aggressively.
» The chances for hitting a straight or flush on the last hand are pretty high so do not feel mighty if you have a big pair (even aces) as you can be easily blew away.
» As in many other gambling games the 'get caught bluffing' rule applies here too. So get caught bluffing once in a while so you can became a more unpredictable player. By losing a few chips you can eye-wash your opponents.
» The first 4 cards are the most important in seven card stud poker. If they develop according to plan you have a big chance to win, if not you better give up at the early stages so you can escape some expensive experiences.
