Here we will give some specific Pai Gow examples and will illustrate the best approaches that can be applied in the different situations.
-
In case you do not have pairs, straight nor flush then use your strongest card for the 5 cards hand and your second and third strongest ones - for your 2 cards hand.
-
In case you have one pair only then move it to your 5 cards hand and the 2 strongest cards among the rest use for your 2 cards hand. For example if you have Q-J-10-8-6-4-2 the best way for you to proceed is to form the following hands – J-10 and Q-8-6-4-2. Of course there are exceptions from that rule like for example: A-Q-10-9-5-3-2. In that case it is slightly better for you to play Q-9 and A-10-5-3-2 but cases like that happen quite rarely and your winning chances are better by too little at large so there is almost no difference which of the 2 approaches you will chose.
-
If you have 3 of a kind and nothing else, you will want to use those 3 for your 5 cards hand and the other strong cards – in your 2 cards hand, except there are no Aces outside the 3 of a kind. If you have 3 aces then you always consider splitting them in the following way: a pair of aces in your 5 cards hand and the other ace – in your small hand.
-
The most complex situation is when you get 2 pairs. You can either play your stronger pair in your 5 cards hand and the weaker one – in your 2 cards one but you can also use both pairs for your big hand and strong cards for your small one. As lower your weaker pair is the more you better consider using your both pairs for your 5 cards hand. If your cards outside the pairs are low or the your stronger pair – very high (Aces or Kings) the better split the pairs – the stronger one in the big hand and the weaker one in the small hand.
-
The cases when you have 3 pairs are very favorable for you. Remember that in such cases you should always use your strongest pair for your 2 cards hand the other 2 pairs – for your 5 cards hand. For example if you have K-K-8-8-6-6-A then make your hands this way: K-K and 8-8-6-6-A
-
If you have a 6 cards straight – use it for your 5 cards hand and put your 2 strongest cards among the others – in your 2 cards hand. It means that you put the strongest card of the straight into the small hand.
-
In case you have a full house then use the 3 of a kind for your 5 cards hand and the pair – for your 2 cards hand.
